Gary Harper - SPIRIT AT WORK
Conflict Resolution
Victims, Villains, Heroes
and The Role of Forgiveness

Gary Harper, Conflict Resolution
with Gary Harper
Author of
The Joy of Conflict Resolution

Date: Thursday | March 16 2006 | 12:15 - 1:30pm
Location: Main Floor, Terasen Gas Building
1111 West Georgia (at Thurlow), Vancouver BC

Everyone in conflict has their story, in which they maintain innocence, justify behaviour and demonize adversaries...

These stories cast people as victims, villains or
heroes, and trap all involved on a “drama triangle”
of confrontation.

This interactive presentation will provide you
with a new and practical lens through which to
better understand conflict.

You will also be invited to explore the nature of
forgiveness and its role in moving us beyond
confrontation and judgement to build relationships
and work collaboratively.

$15.00 Members, $20.00 Non-Members
Includes sandwiches, salad, coffee and tea.

Please RSVP by Wednesday March 15 to help us
make accurate catering arrangements. Thank you.

About Gary Harper

For over 15 years, Gary Harper has trained thousands in conflict resolution. His students include mediators, lawyers, police officers, counselors, diamond miners and film crews.

He recently authored The Joy of Conflict Resolution – acclaimed for its accessibility, humour and practicality.

Gary's unique blend of experience as a personal injury lawyer, general manager, insurance regulator and retail storeowner shaped his understanding of conflict and his appreciation for effective communication.

In 1991 he completed the Conflict Resolution Certificate Program offered by the Justice Institution and the Commercial Mediation program through the Vancouver Centre for Commercial Disputes.

He designed and conducted a variety of workshops on communication skills and conflict resolution for managers, shop stewards, municipal employees, adjusters, and bylaw enforcement officers, among others.

He has trained for the Justice Institute of B. C., I.C.B.C., the Workers' Compensation Board, B. C. Transit, Revenue Canada, and the University of British Columbia and its Women's Resource Centre, among others.

Gary regularly presents at conferences and at other public appearances. His workshops on “Victims, Villains and Heroes” were among the highlights of Interaction 2004 and at Family Mediation Canada’s conference.

Gary is known for his high-energy and humour and for the ability to foster a positive, supportive learning environment. He believes people learn best when they are actively engaged and having fun.
