Doug Kelsey President & CEO, Skytrain & West Coast Express on Ethics of Workplace Security

Doug will discuss the ethics of workplace security and the world of security, particularly on high capacity rail systems. Mr. Kelsey will review the impacts of world events such as the bombing in Madrid, Tokyo, London and New York and the need to challenge some of our previously taken for granted freedoms in contrast with the importance of providing a safe and secure public rail transit system to customers, employees and contractors.

About Doug Kelsey
Doug is President and Chief Executive Officer of both the British Columbia Rapid Transit Company (known as SkyTrain) and the West Coast Express, where he is responsible for the full operating assets exceeding $2.5 billion that cover much of Greater Vancouver and parts of the Fraser Valley.
During his current tenure he has significantly improved fiscal and operating performance at West Coast Express from 33.5% cost recovery to 70%. SkyTrain has also reduced its costs by millions of dollars in just a few years. SkyTrain is currently undergoing a similar transformation from an operating to a service based culture.
A former executive responsible for national retail planning at Shell Canada, along with numerous other senior roles across Canada and the United States, Doug has a strong private service sector background in leading significant change to achieve top performance. His background includes strategic planning, finance, operations, asset management, marketing, distribution and real estate.
Previous to his current role with SkyTrain/ West Coast Express, Doug was the team leader responsible for the development and defence of the transportation plan with the IOC during the Olympic bid phase. He is also currently is a co-founder of the HSBC Basketball Classic, the largest high school basketball tournament in North America for high school students, wheel chair athletes and First Nations students. One of its primary key purposes is to raise scholarships for graduating high school seniors to excellence in academics and athletics.
