Heather Conn - SPIRIT AT WORK
A SPIRITUAL WORKPLACE:
Reality or Utopia?

with Heather Conn
Editor, People Talk Magazine

Thursday December 15 2005   12:15 - 1:30pm
Location:   Main Floor, Terasen Gas Building (formerly BC Gas) 1111 West Georgia @ Thurlow, Vancouver BC

The mention of spirituality in the workplace can draw strong reactions, misunderstandings, and downright hostility. Why?

—Why are people so afraid of this concept?
—What does a spiritual workplace look like?
—How do you define it and then create it?

Join us for lunch as Heather explores some misconceptions around this topic, and talks about the reactions she received while researching an article on this subject.

Heather will also share about Taoism and Buddhism, and the Burning Man Festival in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, which last year was attended by over 25,000 people.

About Heather Conn

Heather is Editor of PeopleTalk, a quarterly magazine published by the BC Human Resources Management Association.

As a professional writer/editor, photographer and screenwriter, Heather has made spirituality the core of her business and personal life for almost 20 years. Her brand of spirituality includes a strong belief in sustainability, eco-awareness, personal empowerment, creative self-expression, and non-violent communication.

Heather’s spiritual exploration has fuelled her desire to be a world traveler; it took her to India for seven months, where she did extensive meditation and lived in Tibetan communities. She has written on these subjects for Common Ground, Alive Journal, Shared Vision, and Balanced Life. Heather’s articles have appeared in about 50 publications, including The Vancouver Sun, The Edmonton Journal, The Vancouver Book, Canadian Geographic and The Georgia Straight.

With Henry Ewert, she is co-author of the photo history book Vancouver’s Glory Years (Whitecap Books, 2003). Heather has also co-written two short films for Bravo! TV and wrote segments for the former show Hopscotch for CBC Television in Vancouver.

As a writing instructor, Heather has taught full-time at Selkirk College and at adult evening classes for Simon Fraser University at Harbour Centre, the Vancouver School Board and the Kootenay School of Writing. Most recently, she has taught creative writing to adults with mental illness for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority in Sechelt, BC. Currently, Heather is a contract writer/researcher for a women’s HIV/AIDS project for the HIV/AIDS Legal Network. Heather divides her time between Vancouver and Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast.
