Dr. Mark Wexler

Corporate Psychopathy, Ethics and Social Responsibility

Is it plausible to believe that some contemporary corporations or their leaders are psychopathic?

This talk follows up on Joel Bakan's movie and book, The Corporation, plus Mark's work with MBA students at Simon Fraser University, and a soon-to-be published paper he has written entitled: "The Successful Psychopath: Reframing the Contemporary Corporation."

Background

"Some months ago, I showed the movie The Corporation to a large class of undergraduate 'business and society' students and then a class of executive MBAs. The vast majority accepted its basic premise that the corporation not only has the potential to act as a conscienceless monster – but is increasingly realizing this potential. I was bowled over! But in the spirit of empiricism and with a growing curiosity, I decided to look deeper."

Dr. Wexler will hand out the figures from his new paper, plus two or three copies of it to participants interested in exploring his arguments in more detail. Those too shy to raise their questions may contact Mark at wexler@sfu.ca

A question, answer and discussion period will follow.
