Bringing Values to Work with Rob Safrata, CEO, Novex Delivery Solutions (Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 -- 7:15 - 8:30 am) - - - - - - - - - -
"It's easier telling the truth, that way you don't have to remember anything." - Mark Twain
Respect, service, care, honesty, communication and higher order – these are all important elements in operating a "triple bottom line" business, according to Novex CEO Rob Safrata.
Novex Delivery Solutions (aka Novex Couriers) is one of the largest local same-day couriers in the Lower Mainland, with over 100 delivery vehicles making over 2000 deliveries per day. Winner of the 2008 ecoFREIGHT Transportation Award (one of the GLOBE Foundation Awards for Environmental Excellence), the company is also committed to becoming a truly sustainable organization by creating a triple bottom line that includes a social, economic and environmental focus.
Join us as Rob Safrata talks about Novex's commitment to Sustainability and Ethical Business practices, and the alignment of its associates to its cause.

"Novex CEO Rob Safrata says businesses that pollute have a responsibility to clean up or reduce pollution." - The Globe and Mail
Novex Couriers has earned a reputation for its commitment to sustainability. The company uses a variety of emission-reducing vehicles including hybrids, natural gas and Biodiesel-powered vehicles, saving approximately 88 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year. They've implemented office waste reduction and paper conservation programs, energy reduction initiatives, and a purchasing policy that ensures the inclusion of products that are sourced in a sustainable manner. In 2007, they became "carbon neutral" for the year by planting close to 2700 trees native to the area (in Bear Creek Park, Surrey) to offset the greenhouse emissions from their 115 vehicles.
This year, Novex won the ecoFREIGHT Transportation Award, one of the GLOBE Foundation Awards for Environmental Excellence. The company has also received the EECOM award for Excellence in Environmental Education, the Richmond Business Ethics Award for involvement and leadership in the community, and has been a finalist in the Ethics in Action Awards for four years in a row.

About Our Speaker:
Robert Safrata was an established and successful corporate leader, visionary and investor prior to buying NOVEX Couriers and becoming the company’s CEO. Since focusing on NOVEX, he has turned the company into Canada’s first environmentally responsible courier. It is now being heralded as the company that is raising the bar and setting new standards of environmental ethics – in a business not historically known as being environmentally sensitive.
Safrata and his partners joined with NOVEX founder, Ken Johnston, to acquire the Richmond-based company out of receivership in 2001. They expanded the business in 2002 through a focused sales growth and acquisition strategy. Through his leadership, NOVEX has embraced sustainability practices including the addition of gasoline/electric hybrid vehicles to the company’s fleet of over 110 vehicles. As an organization, NOVEX is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its operations, including its fleet, office and business practices.
In 1996, Safrata founded Eaglequest Golf Centers Inc., and built this into a chain of golf centres across North America. He acted as CEO until 1998, at which time the business revenues had reached $40 million with 450 employees. Safrata and his partners sold Eaglequest to the US market leader for $105 million, providing returns of over 300% to shareholders.
An Al Gore-trained speaker for An Inconvenient Truth, Safrata remains an active partner of Paradigm Partners, a corporate investment group comprised of the former executive management team of Eaglequest Golf Centers.
Safrata is a past Chairman of Outward Bound Canada and is a Member of the Young Presidents Organization. As a member of the Canadian Ski Team from 1973 to 1978, he competed in the 1976 Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.
Rob Safrata lives in Vancouver with his wife of 23 years and four children. | |
